Arlene's Art

Handmade Tile Wall Murals and Ceramics for Home and Office

I have had a love affair with clay for most of my life. My passion is in creating unique wall art, but I take commissions for almost anything "clay".

I use low-fire white and low and high-fire red clays. Some tiles are glazed while other tiles are impressed with metal objects or leaves and plants. The tiles are dried, kiln fired, colored and smoke fired in straw. They are then mounted on sign board and made ready to hang.

Having a studio here in this beautiful natural area of Tennessee for the past 35 years has inspired what I do with my clay. I want to give thanks to the Appalachian Center for Crafts in Smithville, Tennessee where I went to school to improve my work. This is an incredible school for the arts.

I am a member of the Off The Beaten Path Studio Tour which brings art lovers to this area from all over. The tour is always on the last weekend of October. Call or e-mail me for a map and come visit us!  — Arlene Knaak
